Dear scholars,
This is my last newsletter of 2024 so I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for reading! Especially my paid subscribers — I know it’s not always within the budget to be a Substack patron but I’m always blown away that anyone is willing to pay to read and support my work, I think about it all the time. If there’s ever anything you’d like to see in this newsletter, or if you just love it the way it is, please let me know into the next year as I continue writing.
That being said, I wanted to offer a preview of some of the things I’m working on. Here’s where I’m at for 2025:
A new interview series: I’ve begun putting out feelers for more actor interviews in my newsletter and I’ve put together standing questions that are related to their relationship with television itself. What do actors actually watch, what are their foundational shows, their favourite TV-watching snacks, the show they dropped out of their watching schedule? You know, the important questions. I recently had an amazing interview with an actor that I’ll publish for January. If you’re a PR person reading this, I want to chit chat about TV with your actor client(s)!
The official tvscholar toolkit: This will be a paywalled page on my newsletter that is routinely updated and will include an FAQ, my favourite shows per streaming platform, resources like TV-related books and podcasts that I recommend, my fav TV critics to follow, templates for keeping track of your TV watching, and so on.
Timing: I will be prioritizing writing about the shows I’m watching here before I post about them on Instagram. Yes, the algorithm brings new readers which is important, but I think those subscribing should get to engage with my thoughts in these round-ups first.
tvscholar Discord: This is on hold for now. I want to make sure I have enough capacity to moderate this. For now, you can always sound off in the comments of these newsletters — I will always read/interact with what you have to say and I encourage others to do the same!
I will be taking a brief Instagram hiatus for the holidays but the newsletter will continue its bimonthly publication schedule as usual. I’m exploring a 3x a month publication schedule but I want to keep it all manageable — and avoid the newsletter spam of it all.
Happy holidays and as always, happy watching. The usual monthly round-up below.
